I'm concerned that many of these add functionality that will make the site less shatter resistant. I value shatter resistance quite highly, especially for the again increasing number of people who disable Javascript. People who disable Javascript are not usually people who don't know what they're doing, but rather those who have very specific concerns and may never return if they get a white screen of death, a broken site, or just a site that's noticeably less than what we intended. -- Strangelv (talk) 12:14, 4 December 2021 (PST)
- Add Admin CSS
- Needed to add one line of CSS to fix a work-impeding problem with the admin theme. ENABLED
- .wp-list-table { table-layout: auto !important }
- Akismet Anti-Spam
- Believed to be for the comments functionality. James believes that we may want to keep comments disabled, at least until we get a large number of daily visitors. Currently disabled.
- Category Posts Widget
- Used for section boxes in the below-the-fold area, and an important component of the site structure. ENABLED
- Custom Menu Wizard
- James doesn't remember what he installed this to do and doesn't know if we still need it. ENABLED
- Defender Pro
- Ask Tarnell for detailed explanation. Currently disabled.
- Heateor Social Comments
- Allows multiple ways to add comments and connects to multiple websites. James doesn't believe we should do this. Currently disabled.
- Hello Dolly
- This appears to be a hello world test, and if so has probably long ago served its purpose. Currently disabled.
- Hummingbird Pro
- Meant to speed up the site load time. James wonders at what costs. Currently disabled.
- Hustle Pro
- Adds a popup that bugs visitors to sign up for our nonexistent email list. James hates this. Currently disabled.
- Javascript Autoloader
- Add Javascript stuff from the admin menu? James wants as little Javascript as we can possibly get away with, and even then only for progressive enhancements. Currently disabled.
- Jetpack by Wordpress.com
- Has a mess of different free and presumably non-free enhancements. Some are useful. Tarnell may know more about this. James worries about enabling something non-free or that might make the site less shatter resistant. ENABLED
- LetReach
- Push notifications (popups). Currently disabled.
- List Category Posts
- We're using Category Posts widget instead and can probably safely delete this. Disabled.
- MonkeyPlugin
- Seems to be a dependency for one or more other plugins. ENABLED
- SmartCrawl
- something to help with SEO. ENABLED although it probably should not have been while we were inactive with no content
- Smush Pro
- A plugin meant to improve performance and SEO. Currently disabled.
- Snapshot Pro
- Looks like something to help with making backups. Currently disabled.
- Ultimate Category Excluder
- Needed to control what categories are visible in specific circumstances. ENABLED
- WPMU DEV Dashboard
- This seems to be here to control a mess of other plugins. Currently disabled.
- WPMU DEV Videos
- "A simple way to integrate WPMU DEV's over 40 unbranded support videos into your websites." Currently disabled.
